Dr. Michael DePerro is a Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is happy to make his home in Columbus. He was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and takes great pride in his home state and his Midwestern roots. His mother was a school teacher, and his father has been a dentist in Youngstown for over 40 years. He has three older sisters, so it’s safe to say he learned at a young age how to “listen” to the concerns of women. His sisters are all married, and he has eight nieces and nephews. He proudly self-proclaims himself as the “World’s Greatest Uncle.”
Dr. DePerro attended Cardinal Mooney High School where he graduated as the class salutatorian. He was a member of the golf, speech, track, and cross country teams. His 4 x 800 relay team set multiple school records, and he was a member of the 1999 Division II Cross Country State Championship team.
After high school, Dr. DePerro entered the Honors Program at Ohio State University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors. Dr. DePerro was then accepted into medical school at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. Dr. DePerro became the first out-of-state student ever accepted into medical school at the University of South Florida. While attending medical school in Tampa, he proudly wore his scarlet and gray T-shirts to the dismay of many of his classmates. Eventually, his close friends learned the proper response for whenever Dr. DePerro would shout “O-H.”
Upon finishing medical school, Dr. DePerro moved back to Columbus to complete a five-year general surgery residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital. While at Riverside, he was voted by his fellow residents as the “Resident Teacher of the Year” and the “Resident of the Year.” During his final year of general surgery training, he served as the chief resident. Dr. DePerro successfully passed his general surgery written and oral boards on his first attempt and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. DePerro chose to continue his specialty training in plastic surgery at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. He trained for three years with some of Ohio’s most accomplished plastic surgery groups. He spent time at Akron City Hospital, Akron General Medical Center, Akron Children’s Hospital, and the Cleveland Clinic. At the 2014 American Society of Plastic Surgeons annual meeting in Chicago, Dr. DePerro’s paper on breast reductions was awarded the top resident prize of “Best Paper and Presentation.” Dr. DePerro successfully passed his Plastic Surgery written and oral boards on his first attempt and is a board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. DePerro has now moved back to Columbus and opened his plastic and reconstructive surgery practice at the Knightsbridge Surgery Center in 2016. His office is conveniently located at 1830 Bethel Rd. Suite 200, Columbus, OH 43220. Dr. DePerro has privileges at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Dublin Methodist Hospital, and Mount Carmel East/West Hospital.
